Studio in the Woods (Independent)
A summer workshop where architecture students test ideas at 1:1 alongside practicing architects. The workshop was set to address the lack of making in architecture schools, and to explore design through making. Each year, a kit of parts is given to students which is a stack of timber in the round, which is milled on site. Students are encouraged to design on the hoof, with few or no drawings.
Tutors/Critics: Piers Taylor (Invisible Studio), Kate Darby (KDA), Meredith Bowles (MOLE Architects), Je Ahn (Studio Weave), Maria Smith (Studio Weave), Barbara Kaucky (Erect Architecture), Susanne Tutsch (Erect Architecture), Peter Clegg (FCB Studio), Charley Brentnall (Timber Expert), Toby Maclean (TALL Engineers), Ted Cullinan (Edward Cullinan Architect), Toby Lewis (FCBS and University of Bath), Gianni Botsford (Gianni Botsford Architects)
Students: Over 350 Students
