5Motiv8, Portsmouth (UK) 2013

Portsmouth University

This event represents collaboration between the Project Office and a local Portsmouth youth charity called Motiv8. The success of a previous one-day event coordinated by the Project Office in March 2013, that involved local community members and school pupils from Portsmouth, provided the theme for this intensive 4-day project. The ambition of this event was to assist with the creation of designs for a new Motiv8 ‘Gateway’ and, additionally, propose inspiring, creative and feasible ideas to revitalise the existing Omega Centre building currently occupied by Motiv8. This design workshop created some collateral to be used for the Reaching Communities application and could be used to bring together the community within the building but also by offering support to local families and children. This event was used to raise awareness within the community about the activities of Motiv8.

The Client representatives for this project Mr Charlie Ade and Mr Steve Nash, have been provided with an inspiring range of ideas for the redesign of the premises Motiv8 currently use at the Omega Centre; these include not only abstract visions of how the venue could be used, but also feasible proposals that can be transformed in to ‘real’ solutions. Motiv8 have stated that the results of this four-day design workshop will become part of future funding applications.
